It was at King’s College Hospital, London, that Paul completed his first training in Advanced Life Support. Later as part of the hospitals resuscitation team he attended emergency calls.
After moving to Saudi Arabia in 1997 Paul initially worked at Armed Force’s Hospital, Khamis Mushayt in the Acute Cardiac Unit and later as the Resuscitation Training Officer. Resuscitation Training courses were certified by the Saudi Heart Association in affiliation with the American Heart Association and Paul completed his Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider and Instructors courses. He also qualified as a Basic Life Support Instructor Trainer. Part of his role was to attend Cardiac Arrest and Medical Emergency calls in the hospital to assist with coordinating the response as well as auditing cardiac arrests.
Since returning to Australia Paul has maintained his interest in Resuscitation Training while working as the Clinical Service Coordinator of the Coronary Care Unit at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, South Australia. He held the Chair of the Resuscitation Advisory Committee and been actively involved in resuscitation equipment, training and organisation issues at the hospital. Paul has completed the ‘Health Leads – Future Leads’ course as well as a ‘Certificate IV in Training and Assessment’.
Paul has completed the Australian Resuscitation Council’s Advanced Life Support Level 2 Provider and Instructor courses.
Paul became a course director on the Advanced Life Support Level 1 course in 2012.
Andy’s first exposure to Advanced Life Support courses was in 1992 when he did his original ALS provider course at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London. Andy completed his Advanced Life Support Instructor training in 1994 and has been actively teaching resuscitation ever since.
Andy held the position of Resuscitation Officer in the Highlands of Scotland from 1997 to 2007, responsible for developing and organising resuscitation training for 1500 doctors, nurses and allied health workers. Andy also coordinated the Resuscitation Council (UK) Advanced Life Support course (ALS) as an Instructor and Course Director.
He also instructed on and directed the European Paediatric Life Support course (EPLS) and coordinated the Advanced Trauma Life Support course (ATLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Programme (NRP). Andy has also completed the Major Incident Management course (MIMMS) and has instructed on BASICS courses in Scotland.
Andy is an experienced Instructor course instructor involved in training many of tomorrows Advanced Life Support instructors.Andy held the position of Chair of the Scottish Resuscitation Group (SRG) from 2003- 2006 actively promoting and coordinating resuscitation training within the health care sector.
Since moving to Australia in 2008 Andy has remained actively involved in resuscitation training whilst working in Emergency at Flinders Medical Centre and Ashford Hospital in Adelaide.
Andy co-ordinates the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Advanced Life Support (ALS2) courses in South Australia and instructed on the first ARC ALS2 course to be run in the State in 2008. He also introduced the first ARC ALS1 (ILS) course in South Australia in 2010.
